I can't believe the summer is almost over and another football season is upon us! I hope that the summer months found everyone to be relaxing and refreshing and it was spent with good friends, family, food and full of memories.

With that, as a Chapter, we have much going on this fall, all started by the second (hopefully) annual student send off at Temple Bar. We hosted this event 2 years ago and everyone had a great time celebrating the accomplishments of the Valley Penn State students. Followed by the ever-famous Phoenix Chapter season Kick Off Pool Party, this year, hosted by Mark and Carol Brennan.

Then in a mere week, the beginning of the 2013-2014 football season! We're again hosted this year by Temple Bar and we are SO appreciative of them for all that they've done for us the last few years. The management and staff are so wonderful to us. Please support them whenever you can.

We're continuing our growing relationship with St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance and hope to become more involved packing emergency food boxes, crating other bulk foods and putting meals on the tables of valley families. Cash donations are HUGE to St. Mary's and create 7 times the impact of a can of food. $1 donated equals 7 (!!) meals, whereas your canned donations are 1 can to 1 meal. Canned foods are always appreciated, but your dollar at the store goes so much further when put directly into St. Mary's hands.

We are also continuing our annual Phoenix Chapter Habitat for Humanity weekend during our second bye week. No excuses to get up on a beautiful October day and swing a hammer and lift a board to put a valley family in a quality home, built with love.

And of course, we will be again taking care of our adopted stretch of I-10, only we are moving the clean up date into 2014 as so we can settle down from the holidays and football and we're also going to be starting a little later, so you can still sleep in. More details to come on these events.

Again, I'm SO excited for this season and all it has to offer. You've done an amazing job as a Chapter and I'm honored and thrilled to be in charge this year.  If anyone has any suggestions for how we can make the Chapter better or any outreach opportunities you'd like to see us involved in, please drop me a line and let us know. We're always looking for new ways to help in the Valley.

    Blue and White Forever,

    Phx Chapter President
